2. What do you do for a living?

I deal with IT operations for a biotechnology company, ensuring that the clinical trials for drugs that are in development operate smoothly. That means I tend to spend all my time just talking to people. While I miss my old computer programming days, my current work has it's own rewards.

Hello KAPS! My name is Yumi Lee (이유미), and I was born and raised in Seoul, moved to Boston to pursue a graduate degree in Sculpture, and then off to Philadelphia for second Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. 2. What do you do for a living?

A full-time landscape architect and a part-time real estate investor.

3. What do you hope to get out of KAPS?

In past few months, I’ve made so many new friends from such diverse fields/ages through KAPS. That’s awesome. (Now, everyone even knows where I live because of the KAPS Halloween party) As a typical yoo-hak-saeng, I was so busy assimilating the cultural differences that I was neglecting what it means to be ‘Korean’. I am impressed to see that my fellow KAPS members are proud of their Korean background, and try to maintain their cultural heritage. This is eye-opening to me.

Each month, we will get a hold of a KAPS member for a short interview so that we can better get to know them. This month, we caught up with Jiin Son.

1. Please introduce yourself in 3 sentences

I grew up in Seoul, came to US for graduate school, moved SF in 2001, and love SF so far. SF has a little bit of everything; I can still enjoy cultural things - not as much as NY, but still good quality performances, exhibitions, etc; can enjoy natural things within a few hours drive - the beach, skiing, hiking; and enjoy diversity cultures. Currently, I'm building up a foundation so that hopefully, in the near future, I can do what I love - being with family, hanging out with friends, traveling around, making changes...

2. What do you do for a living?

My full time job is a landscape architect/ Urban designer, but in my spare time I become a real estate investor and an entrepreneur.

3. What do you hope to get out of KAPS?

Of course, hanging out with friends and meet new people!
Well, I'm very impressed with KAPS officers and how they have cultivated their Korean heritage. My vision for KAPS is that fosters sense of Korean community and help/support each other - being 이웃사촌.

Hello KAPS! My name is Daniel and I moved to SF in early 2008. I moved back and forth between Korea and Michigan growing up so that hopefully explains why I exhibit both fobby and 2nd generation Korean American characteristics. It took me some time to get adjusted to SF (the wind! the hills!), but the city is starting to grow on me and I’m embracing all it has to offer.

2. What do you do for a living?

I work for a wealth management firm that focuses on financial planning and investment management for private individuals.

3. What is one thing you can do that not a lot of people know you can do?

I don’t have any hidden talents per se... but I’d like to think that I’m pretty good at most things... unfortunately, I’m not particularly good at anything.
