Community Service Event: SF Food Bank

Dear KAPS,

Thank you everyone once again for helping make KAPS SF Food Bank Community Service Day a successful one.
August 21st bring us yet another opportunity to help our local SF Food Bank.
Three hours is all it takes for us to help put food on the table for people who need it.
You will join an efficient, well organized project right on the day you come in to help sort, package and ready food for distribution.

Last time out, our section of volunteers packed about 1040 boxes of food to be distributed throughout San Francisco. That's over 20,000 pounds of food sorted and packed in less that 3 hours!
Check out our pictures on the KAPS gallery. http://kaps.org/index.php?q=gallery&g2_itemId=7521

I will follow up with more details as the day draws near. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at dennis@kaps.org. See you soon!

Thanks again,
Dennis Kwon
KAPS Community Service Officer

NAAAP Event: 24th Annual National Association of Asian American Professionals Convention & Diversity Career Fair

The 24th Annual National Association of Asian American Professionals Convention and Diversity Career Fair presented by Macy’s is scheduled for San Francisco, August 12 - 15, 2010. With 25 chapters and ventures across North America, NAAAP is the largest and fastest growing Asian professional association. The 2010 Convention, aptly titled “Gateway to Leadership” is an outstanding opportunity for entry level to senior level Asians in all sectors. Participants will enhance their leadership skills, participate in innovative workshops, interact with inspirational speakers, network with a diverse group of accomplished individuals, and meet with 45 companies at the Diversity Career Fair. Entry to the Career Fair is completely free with pre-registration. The impressive array of keynote speakers and panelists include CIA director Leon Edward Panetta, Sybase CEO John Chen, Doreen Ho, former chairman of United Commercial Bank, and Charlotte Russe CEO Jenny Ming.

WHAT: 24th Annual National Leadership Convention and Diversity Career Fair (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001336909838#!/event.php?eid=370722327581)
WHO: Hosted by the National Association of Asian American Professionals
WHERE: Palace Hotel, San Francisco
WHEN: Aug 12 – 15, 2010

The career fair free is for registrants, and there is another bonus -- once participants upload their resumes and appear at the fair, they will get a chance to win a free iPad, which will be awarded at the convention.

We have secured a special PROMO code (up to $250 OFF) for our members, to help them attend the "Gateway to Leadership" Convention. We want our members to be able to take advantage of this opportunity to be exposed to celebrity Asian speakers on inspirational topics, participate in practical workshops targeted at Asian Americans, enjoy events and entertainment over three days, and network with an expected crowd of 600+ Asian American leaders from all over the Nation. See www.naaapconvention.org for full details.

This year there will be many prominent and inspirational speakers and panelists, including CIA director Leon Panetta, Sybase CEO John Chen, United Commercial Bank former chairman Doreen Ho, and Charlotte Russe CEO Jenny Ming, to mention just a few. See http://www.naaapconvention.org/2010/Programming/Speakers.aspx for the full list of speakers.

If the Convention is not in your budget or you're not able to commit to the full three days, a WORKSHOPS ONLY pass is available for all or any one of the days. It is even better value with the PROMO code we have secured for our members. See which day of workshops you want to attend at: http://www.naaapconvention.org/2010/Programming/Workshops.aspx .

And if you're job seeking or looking for a career change, you shouldn't miss NAAAP's free-of-charge Annual Diversity Career Fair, Friday, August 13, 2010 - 9am to 5pm and Saturday August 14, 2010 - 9am to 3pm. It is a great opportunity to meet, greet, and take part in on-site interviews with employers in an informal setting, as well as learn about job/internship opportunities offered by over 45 diversity driven companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Pre-register for the fair at www.naaap.org/careers, and when you upload your resume and appear at the Fair, it will be forwarded to recruiters in advance of the fair, and you will be entered in a drawing for a free iPad, to be awarded at the Convention.
