VOLUNTEER WITH KAPS FOR CHUSOK AT THE KOREAN CENTER

KAPS is excited to assist the Korean Center, Inc. (www.koreannet.org) with this year's Chusok Open House Night on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The Korean Center (1362 Post St, corner of Gough) currently is the only comprehensive social service agency in San Francisco dedicated to serving the Korean American community.

Please join KAPS as we give back to Koreans and Korean Americans in our community by assisting the Korean Center. We will be needing several volunteers to help staff various activity rooms for families with children, including:

Yut-nori competition
Korean calligraphy
Artisanale kimchi sampling
Jaegi tournament
Korean bingo night
Karaoke room
Korean calligraphy
Homemade songpyun (rice cakes)

As an added bonus, there will be TONS of traditional Korean feast-style food in the patio area. You should wear your KAPS t-shirt or dress in your best hanbok for the costume contest.

This event promises to be a fun celebration and a great way to provide service to your community. Please contact KAPS Community Service Chair, Christine Shin at christine@kaps.org to RSVP or with any questions. See you there!

RECAP: BAKAS WINE TASTING EVENT

Friday, September 18 marked the 6th annual BAKAs wine tasting at Fort Mason, hosted in conjunction with KABA, KACC-NPC, KACC-SV, KASE and KIN. The event was attended by nearly 500 people and featured great wine, great networking opportunities, and an overall great atmosphere.

KAPS would like to thank BAKAs' sponsors the Consulate General, WeKoreans.com, KEMS TV, LiveVOX, Churchill Cellars, Precita Market, Trefethen Family Vineyards and Kenneth Kim Vineyards, all of our volunteers and our speaker Jane Kim, the VP of the Board of Education of San Francisco.

If you didn't get a chance to sign up for the weKoreans.com directory, please visit http://www.wekoreans.com/register/bakas09/start.jsp and register - this is a great way to connect online with other BAKAs attendees and KAPS members. To see pictures of the event, visit our gallery at http://kaps.org/index.php?q=gallery&g2_itemId=7156

If you're interested in obtaining a program from the event, ordering wine from one of our sponsors, or getting in contact with any of the other Korean-American groups in attendance, please contact KAPS Vice-President Andrew Ko at andrew@kaps.org. We're also looking for people to help plan BAKAs 2010, which we hope will be even better than this year's.

REGISTER TO BE A POTENTIAL BONE MARROW DONOR

Help Save a Life! Register to be a potential bone marrow donor. The Asian American Donor Program will be at the following events for anyone interested in registering to be donors. Because race and ethnicity is crucial with matching patients and donors, and with the severe shortage of Asian, especially Koreans, on the registry. We need YOUR help to make sure that all leukemia and lymphoma patients have a chance to live! It only takes 10 minutes and a cheek swap.
