US DEBUT OF CHO-IN THEATRE

The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) and the Korean Cultural Center of San Francisco (KCCSF) are very proud to present the U.S. debut of Cho-In Theatre, a South Korean ensemble that has created a fascinating physical theatre piece based on the traditional folk tale "The Angel and the Woodcutter."

TICKETS: Discount Tickets Available Only through KCCSF

For more information: www.kccsf.org

Cho-In Theatre perform entirely without words, using body movements, puppets and music they tell complex stories that carry a powerful anti-war message. Their productions are rich in Korea's history and culture and all Koreans know the angel and the woodcutter story. But they have never seen it take this format before as the plot has been dramatically altered in a major way. The Angel & The Woodcutter is truly an international piece of theatre that uses Korean symbols and folklore to highlight the global human condition.

Portraying the Angel as an 'everywoman' figure, this production explores the extreme fragility of life, and the strength and endurance of human love. Motivated by their country's experiences during the Japanese Occupation and the Korean War, Cho-In Theatre's The Angel & The Woodcutter reaches out to western audiences with its universal message.

[The Angel and the Woodcutter] is depicted with a non-verbal, physical language which is delightfully engaging and often very funny… these are physical actors par excellence. Their use of objects, puppetry, masks, music and movement creates an innovative fusion of narrative means, one which enhances the emotional engagement of the spectators…. The Angel and the Woodcutter is a deeply moving piece of theatre. The story is heart-breaking, but the performance itself is a triumph of communication that transcends boundaries.
British Theatre Guide

[Cho-In Theatre’s] enthralling mime and movement, richly blending traditional and contemporary Oriental and Western forms to [a] haunting Korean music collage, sensitively proclaims universal themes of compassion and hope.

ASCEND SF’S 3RD ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AND GALA

Host: Ascend Bay Area Chapter (Formerly known as NAASA)
Date: Saturday, June 6, 2009
Time: 9:00am - 8:00pm
Location: Intercontinental Hotel - San Francisco
Street: 888 Howard Street
City/Town: San Francisco, CA

Email: ascendprograms@gmail.com

Saturday, June 6th, 2009 marks Ascend SF Bay Area Chapter’s 3rd Annual Leadership Conference and Gala, “Inspiring Across Generations”.

The current economic environment challenges the timing of an MBA degree. When distilled to its vital essence, its vibrant core, the MBA's true worth lies in three areas: educational value, relationship development and access to opportunity. The decision to pursue an MBA, how to do so, and determining which program is appropriate can present an intimidating challenge. An MBA degree is expensive, which says nothing of the living costs, cost of materials and travel, and for full time candidates, the loss of income for the period of the program. But what is the upside potential of such a degree? Come gain insights into what defines the "MBA experience" above and beyond coursework and internships.

This forum will highlight a group of speakers whose experience with business schools, as graduates, admissions and career services staff, or as managers who hire MBA’s, will help answer some of your questions about MBA experiences and programs. Two 45-minute roundtable sessions will discuss ways to optimize your MBA experience as well as a specific theme:

1.) “Is the MBA degree right for me and what is the right MBA program?
2.) “What are the challenges and benefits for an MBA candidate?"

Panelists:
• Derrick Lee, Vice President, Bessemer Venture Partners (Harvard, 2003)
• Jeanne Lew, Assistant Director of MBA Career Services, Haas School of Business (UCLA, 1990)
• Jasmin Young, Chief Executive Officer, OurSharedSpaces (Berkeley, 2009)
• Timothy Ome, Senior Advisor, The US Market Access Center (The George Washington University School of Business 1982)
• Aneta Marcheva Key, Founder, Aedea Partners LLC (Vanderbilt MBA, 1999, Finance)

I hope you can join us! If you know of other people who want perspective on getting their MBA's, please invite them to this event! For any questions, please contact Aaron Fung at aaron.fung@ascendleadership.org
