KYOPO PROJECT FUNDRAISER TICKETS - DISCOUNT FOR STUDENTS
KAPS is proud to announce a special fundraiser for the KYOPO Project being held at Vessel SF (85 Campton Pl, San Francisco 94108 – www.vesselsf.com) on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009, 6-9pm (Check-in time 6:30-7:00pm).
Entrance fee: $100/Entrance Ticket, $200/VIP Ticket, $1500/Table, $50/Student Ticket (Valid ID required) or for those 21-25 yrs old - 100% Tax Deductible. Check, cash, credit card and company matching donations accepted.
Cindy Hwang (CYJO), a photographer from NYC began The KYOPO Project in 2004. She has photographed and interviewed over 220 kyopo (overseas Koreans) who have grown up around the world, mainly from America. Those profiled include Juju Chang, Elaine Kim, Yul Kwon, Bobby Lee, Corey Lee and the Ahn Sisters. The KYOPO Project (www.KYOPOproject.com) aims to explore and encapsulate KYOPO history by creating a photographic and textual book to educate the public. What had initially started as a project on Koreans or Korean Americans became a project that encompassed the world. Cindy will showcase her work at the Smithsonian in DC next Spring, but she would really like to increase awareness and also publish a book of the essays and photographs of the Kyopos she interviewed.
Guest Emcees and Keynote Speakers include: James Sun, NBC’s “The Apprentice” Finalist and CEO of Zoodango.com, Yul Kwon, CBS’ “Survivor: Cook Islands” winner and community leader, and Sue Kwon, reporter, CBS5 Eyewitness News.
Guest Performers include: Bobby Choy (Big Phony) – singer/songwriter, Maggie Kim – singer/songwriter and her band, and Susie Suh- singer/songwriter.
Silent and Live Auction include: Meals with Mayor Jun Choi and Yul Kwon, Autographed original jersey by Hines Ward, Ski Chalet one week vacation at the 5-star, 5-diamond Stein Erickson lodge, HBO DVD sets, etc.

SF GIANTS GAME – KOREAN HERITAGE NIGHT
Join KAPS for our trip to the 3rd annual Korean Heritage Night with the SF Giants! The Giants will be celebrating Korean culture and community impact at their game against the New York Mets on Thursday, May 14th. There will be very special pregame and in-game entertainment and everyone who attends will get special Korean Heritage seating and a free Korean-themed souvenir!
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased now for $22 via Paypal (added cost is the processing fees).

REGISTER NOW FOR THE KACC GOLF TOURNAMENT
KAPS is proud to partner with the Korean-American Chamber of Commerce (KACC) of Silicon Valley to present the 2009 Golf Tournament at Boulder Ridge Golf Course (one of the finest private golf courses in Silicon Valley).
This event will bring local businesses and players together for a day of golf and entertainment. You will enjoy a day full of golf and social activities including:
18 holes of golf (including cart)

The 2009 event will be held Monday, May 18th at the Boulder Ridge Golf Club (1000 Old Quarry Road., San Jose 95123).
Registration, putting contest, and golf lessons from the PGA professional starting at 10am with a shotgun start at 12pm.
The cost for this event is only $150 which will go toward entry into all events, 18 holes of golf, riding cart, lunch, dinner, wine and prizes. Additional activities are available (at cost) including a 100 yard pitching contest and games at various holes.

Saturday, May 9: Kimchi Registration at 1PM, Tasting starts at 2PM
Please come to the first annual CRITTER Kimchi Contest! All are welcome to submit their favorite version of this spicy pickled delicacy. The people’s choice will win $100, second wins $75, and third will get $50. Bring 1 quart of your best Kimchi to CRITTER at 3579 17th Street in San Francisco on Saturday May 9th at 1 PM. Tasting opens at 2PM.
Kimchi is a traditional Korean pickled side-dish made of vegetables with various seasonings. It is most commonly made with spicy cabbage, but can be made with other vegetables as well. All varieties accepted!
There will be ongoing demonstration of how Kimchi is made, and plenty of palette-cleansing white rice available, so even if you don’t have a favorite recipe for Kim Chee, or you’ve never tried it before—here’s the best chance to try the best Kimchi at CRITTER.

MONTHLY KAPS NEWSLETTER CARTOON
KAPS will be featuring a Korean-American cartoon once a month in our newsletter. These cartoons are brought to us by Jungmin Charles Joo, a Korean-American magazine cartoonist (http://joocartoon.weebly.com), residing in Connecticut.
Jungmin’s cartoons have been published in Commonweal, First for Women, Medical Economics, Saturday Evening Post, Sun, Woman's World, Z magazine, and others.
