HELP KAPS SPRUCE UP SAN FRANCISCO

We've exchanged business cards and corporate profiles, imbibed and laughed. We've built relationships with one another over food and drink; decantation has certainly been our strong suit, and understandably conducive to getting to know other fellow members. Let's take the relationships a step further by teaming up for our first community service event of the year!

KAPS is partnering up with Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) through Hands On Bay Area to restore a small community by sprucing up gardens. We will spend a few hours on Saturday morning, March 7, 2009 (10 am – 1 pm) getting our hands dirty while networking with KAPS members as well as other professionals in the bay area. As prudent, professional adults, we seldom deviate from city culture—when can we ever justify playing in the mud? If that isn't persuasive enough, a BBQ potluck will follow and more importantly, we can get to know one another in a context outside of our usual lives.

For those interested, please RSVP by emailing Christine@kaps.org no later than March 1. We look forward to seeing you there!

14TH OTHER MINDS MUSIC FESTIVAL

Other Minds, a San Francisco-based classical music presenter, and hope you will advertise our international New Music Festival at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco March 5-7, 2009. We will be presenting Trio Con Brio Copenhagen which is comprised of Korean sisters Soo-Jin and Soo-Kyung Hong on violin and cello.

The Los Angeles Times has called the Other Minds Festival “the premier new music festival on the West Coast.” As San Francisco's only international contemporary music event, the Festival is one of the few in the United States that highlights the latest musical developments alongside more traditional new music. Over the last 15 years, Other Minds has featured over 150 composers and 447 guest performers from more than 35 countries. Previous artists include: Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, Meredith Monk, Lou Harrison, Tan Dun, and the Kronos String Quartet.

Trio con Brio Copenhagen was the recipient of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award in 2005. This biennial award, one of the most coveted in the world of chamber music, honors in perpetuity the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio by encouraging and enhancing the career of an extraordinarily accomplished “rising” piano trio. The prize carries with it appearances on twenty major concert series across the USA including New York City’s Carnegie Hall; Trio con Brio Copenhagen was nominated for the award by the Alban Berg Quartet and chosen by members of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio as well as the eminent musicians Claude Frank (pianist), Michael Tree (violist of the Guarneri Quartet), and Peter Wiley (former cellist of the Beaux Arts Trio). Gramophone Magazine wrote of the trio’s début CD: “it’s easy to see what so impressed the judges...
